LOSTWITHIEL

Lostwithiel lies in the Fowey Valley and is accessed by the busy A390 between St Austell and Liskeard. The ancient town boast a 13th Century Castle built for the Earl of Cornwall. Lostwithiel had the Counties Parliament in the Shire Hall up until 1752 which later became known as Duchy Palace.

Lostwithiel was a thriving port until streaming for tin on the moors began to silt up the river which made it in-navigable to sea going ships. Lostwithiel then lost its shipping trade to Fowey.

Lostwithiel has now become a thriving Antiques centre of the County, with a number of Antique shops together with a good selection of fairs and markets and the numerous Auctions held at The Auction Rooms Lostwithiel.

There are a good selection of Public Houses, Tea Rooms, Restaurants in the Town to cater for your every need also the Town has a main line railway station which came through in 1859 designed by I. K. Brunel.

Lostwithiel Castle is a favourite with visitors to the town which is steeped in history.

Other things to see and do include to view the Medieval buildings and bridge together with the ancient church and excellent museum. Lostwithiel is surrounded by beautiful country side ideal for walking, biking and fishing. All parking is free in the town.
